Corey Crawford 2010-11 Mask

Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks (born on Dec. 31, 1984 in Montreal, QC.)

I really, really like this one. I'd say it's in my top 5 of this season.

Artist: Stéphane Bergeron

I believe the Native American image on the backplate is a representation of the "End of the Trail" sculpture by James Earle Fraser (completed in 1915), seen below. Fraser actually lived in Chicago after being born in SD.

I found another photo of the backplate, and it looks like the other side just has feathers.

  2. Well, I only know what's on the side that's visible up there in the photo. That's a Native American on a horse, he's slumped over like he's injured or tired. I'll see if I can find a better photo of the backplate.

  3. If you look up " trail of tears painting" you will find it. And know what it represents.

  4. Actually, I think it's from the sculpture titled End of the Trail by James Earle Fraser. I'll post a photo of it above.

  5. Yes...it's definitely the End of the Trail by James Earle Fraser. When I was a kid living (and playing hockey, believe it or not) in Visalia CA, I would see this sculpture in Mooney's Grove Park. Back in 1919, the residents of Visalia (and Tulare County) rescued the artwork and placed it in the park. In 1968, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City acquired it, and gave the Mooney's Grove Park a bronze casting of the original. (The Oklahoma City Museum is a better spot for it--since it's indoors and sheltered from the elements. And the bronze casting looks very nice in the park.)

  6. Thanks very much for the comment, Derek! Very cool that you actually saw the sculpture "live." It's a beautiful piece.

  9. I don't know for sure if Crawford is Native/First Nation. I have not heard that he is though, and usually that's brought up at some point in time. A friend of mine usually knows all the NHL players that are, and she hasn't mentioned him being one.
