Jaroslav Halak 2018-19 Mask

Jaroslav Halak of the Boston Bruins (born May 13, 1985 in Bratislava, Slovakia.)

Artist: David Gunnarsson

Jaroslav Halak is a big fan of brickwalls on his masks. So when it was time to create his first Bruins mask we decided to go full brickwall all over the bucket.

Cam Talbot 2018-19 Mask

Cam Talbot of the Edmonton Oilers Philadelphia Flyers (born July 5, 1987 in Caledonia, ON.)

Talbot was traded to Philadelphia in February. That mask is at the bottom.

Artist: David Gunnarsson

Once again his twins shows up on the mask as ghost twins! They pop up on the mask among all the sliming orange ghost slime and ghost beams.

Global Series mask (game in Sweden)

"I made this special event mask just for this Sweden game... A ghost transformed into a Swedish viking."

"Cam and I brainstormed, how about transform the whole mask into a Swedish viking boat, and his ghost buddy is transformed into a Swedish viking."

In December David Gunnarsson posted he created a new mask for Talbot.

Once again the mask is a tribute to his twins... On his previous bucket his twins were transformed into spooky Goalbusters, and on this mask they are transformed into two very spooky and slimy Slimers.

Flyers Masks

Stadium Series Mask - This bucket is made for the Stadium series, a spooky painting in black and dark orange... The liberty bell is in focus, inspired from the Stadium Series logo. But it seems like it is some ghostly activity around it.

Then Dave Gunnarsson posted about another Flyers mask, but I haven't been able to find any in-game photos.

Cam wanted again just like on his previous masks a tribute to his twins on the mask, so again they show up as his twin ghosts on the mask. We brainstormed and came up with a plan how to paint it. I picked up my airbrushes and loaded them with black and white and orange and a lot of action. Since we are now in Philly I painted the ghost twins in a Philly version... One of the ghosts are transformed into the legendary boxing son of the city: Rocky. And the other twin is transformed into Rocky’s boxing coach Mickey... And then a ton of spooky Ecto-1 ghost plasma.

Robin Lehner 2018-19 Mask

Robin Lehner of the New York Islanders (born July 24, 1991 in Gothenburg, Sweden.)

Artist: David Gunnarsson

It was truly special for me to paint this for my friend Robin. He wanted to tell the story about his reality. He wanted the mask to be named My Reality. Robin and I have been working together since Robin was a kid. Robin wanted the mask to tell the story about the hell he has been through. You can read his brave story at The Athletic, about mental illness, bipolar diagnosis, suicide thoughts, anxiety, addiction, panic attacks. Now Robin´s new life starts for him and his family and he wanted the mask to testify of his new life. The top of the mask describes how Robin´s reality has been for years... The most important part of mask is the sides, there is the sun at dawn, describing the start of the new life for Robin when he decided to seek help for himself and his family and also follow Jesus and get baptised.
It is so brave by Robin to tell his story to help other people. I am so impressed by you Robin. You also made me stronger with your story. This painting was extra emotional for me to create because since I was a kid I also have been fighting anxiety, panic attacks, OCD… And just as Robin I have seeked for help and found strength in my family and God.

Robin Lehner’s next chapter in his mask art saga in New York Islanders is here. This time the story on the mask is created in the Islanders colors, and the lower parts are inspired from Robin’s pads.
