Carey Price 2010-11 Mask

Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens (born Aug. 16, 1987 in Anahim Lake, BC.)

I see a rodeo theme...I read that Price tried his hand at professional team steer roping in the off-season.

Edit: Some people have asked about the cross on the back of the mask. I didn't find anything about the cross on this season's mask in particular, but I found an article about his previous mask and it mentions that he always wants a cross. Here's what it says:

"The new mask, which Price debuted two weeks ago in the Habs' home opener, has two common themes amongst his previous head protectors - the CH logo on the forehead and a cross located somewhere in the art work.

This installment in Price's collection has the CH front and centre and has a lightning bolt striking the top of a Celtic cross, which is painted on the head plate of the mask.

'That's one thing that hasn't changed,'' Price explained of his desire to have a cross on his helmets. 'It's probably something that I'll always have on my mask.'"

So he didn't explain why, just that he always wants to have one. I'll continue looking.

On March 26, 2011, Price wore a special mask. Here's the story about it over at InGoal Magazine.

This is a tribute mask that he wore some last season and in pre-season this year. Maybe since it's a tribute mask it's for special purposes.

  1. what's with the blue cross on the rear of the 2010 mask, on the bottom left of the head pad on the mask?

  2. I honestly don't know, but I'll ask around and see if I can find out. Thanks for the comment.

  4. You're probably right about the tribute mask. Thanks for the comment!

  6. Oh no, the link didn't come through...not sure what happened. If you check back in, would you mind to try again? I'd love to see the info. Or is you want to e-mail it to me...willow1171@gmail.com.

  7. I've been wondering the same thing. It almost looks like a vertical Finnish flag, but I can't find any information on his heritage. My only other idea is that it's a Christian cross, but that doesn't make too much sense for him. Can you try to re-post the link or send it to leila.roche@gmail.com? Thanks!

  8. I'm going to keep looking. All I know about his heritage is that on his mom's side he's Ulkatcho First Nation (in fact she was chief for a while.) Here's hoping we find out the answer soon...

  9. Well, I found an old article about the previous season's mask where he mentioned he always wants a cross, but he didn't specifically say why. I'll continue to look.

  10. Are you talking about the Blue cross on tribute mask? if so, Jason Labarbra has the same thing. Just thought id let you know, do they anything incomen, where they come from, heros when growing up?

  11. Actually, the blue cross I was referring to is on the back of his rodeo mask. As you are looking from the back, it's on the left-hand side. You can see it in the first photo up there where he's actually wearing the mask.

I didn't realize LaBarbera also had a cross. I don't think I've seen the back of his mask...I'll have to find a photo that shows that.

    Thanks for the comment!

  12. Ahh yes sorry my mistake, what is the little symbols on the tribute mask, at the bottom left??

  13. No problem! I'm thinking the little symbols you are referring to are the artist's "signature" (Darrigo Art.) It looks like it could possibly be a stylized D and A? Maybe?

  15. Maybe he has a cross on his mask because he's a Christian? That wouldn't make too much sense...

  16. Well, that's what I assumed. But I don't like to assume.

  17. Price seemed to have a new mask vs the Caps

  18. The mask Carey used last night was designed in conjunction with clorox as part of a contest called "blanchissage" which is the French word for whitening, but is the hockey term used for shutout. Fans designed and submitted a mask and the winning design was brought to life and used in last night's game. The winner also got two tickets to the game, too bad it was a loss.

  21. What did I miss? Why would Price being a Christian not make sense?

  22. If you're referring to Kevin's comment, I believe he was being sarcastic.

I just don't assume anything about anyone. There are other reasons that people have crosses (Celtic cross, etc), so until I hear him say that's why he has the cross, I won't say with 100% certainty. That's all.

  23. the little symbol would be the aritists intitals or company name

  24. Christians like crosses. What's the problem? There's nothing to research.

    1. There is no problem with the fact that Christians like crosses. But there are other reasons that crosses show up places, so until I read/hear that he says that is the reason he has a cross, then I won't assume anything. I'm not actively researching it, but if anyone finds an interview that states the reason for the cross, please pass it along so this discussion can be put to rest.
