Antti Niemi 2010-11 Mask

Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks (born Aug. 29, 1983 in Vantaa, Finland.)

I read that the "squiggles" are actually tribal flames. It's a holdover from his Hawks mask of last year with the tribal flames on the sides (see bottom photo.) He specifically requested that the flames be included.

I do like the teeth around the face part. Reminiscent of Brian Hayward's Sharks mask from the 90s.

Here is Niemi's Blackhawks mask. You can kind of see the tribal flames on the sides, and that's what he was going for on the sides of his Sharks mask, just in different colors.

  2. The orange part is the "squiggles" I mention above. They are actually tribal flames, and they are very similar to the ones he had on his Blackhawks mask from last season. Even though having tribal flames doesn't fit so much with Sharks as it does Blackhawks, he specifically requested that the artist keep the flames. I'll post a photo of his Hawks mask to show the similarity.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  4. I did hear that Nabokov got out of his KHL contract and was looking at the possibility of an NHL job. I'd love to have him back somewhere.
