Viktor Fasth 2014-15 Mask

Transformed into a machine with his first Edmonton mask (also from Gunnarsson), Fasth has kept the theme and built on it. The previous mask showed the inner-workings behind the mask, with cogs and sprockets all over the place, dripping oil and only just holding on with riveted leather straps. According to Gunnarsson’s Facebook page, “cogwheels are also a cool connection to Fasth’s previous machine mask”. However, this new mask does stray from its predecessor in some aspects.

First of all, and most noticeably, there is something supernatural about this mask. The blue eyes visible from either side of the mask have makeup running down the edges. There is a big orange nose just above the cage that lets viewers know we’re dealing with a psycho “clown in Oilers colors”!

The cogs from the previous mask act as teeth in this new incarnation, one Gunnarsson calls “The Shapeshifter – Oil Drooling Clown”. The title gives you a better idea of just what is going on here. The lips of the clown, stained red by makeup (and who knows what else) run around the entire mask to give the shape-shifting illusion. Oil drool spills out the sides and as you move towards the top of the mask, you get a view of the other creature.

The top of the mask features a skull like face with sunken eyes and the same “cog-teeth”. 

 

And you can see the mask on the left of the first image above is a different mask than all the other photos I posted. That was a 2nd mask he wore (thanks for letting me know, anon.) You can see it doesn't have the blue on top.

Ben Scrivens 2014-15 Mask

Ben Scrivens of the Edmonton Oilers (born September 11, 1986 in Spruce Grove, AB.)

Scrivens began the season with a new mask, then in late October he wore a mask to bring awareness to Schizophrenia and mental health issues.

I'm not sure if EyeCandyAir painted his "main" mask this season or not.

Scrivens sees his position as a goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers as an opportunity and an obligation to do more. So he is lending his name and his mask to raise awareness and funds for mental health in general, and the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta in particular.

Scrivens has started Ben's Netminders, a program that will turn his mask into a canvas for four Edmonton-area artists diagnosed with schizophrenia. Scrivens is raising awareness by wearing the first mask, based on a painting by Richard Boulet. The fundraising will come when the game-worn masks are put up for auction, but more important is giving a voice to those who often are marginalized.

In December Scrivens unveiled his second special mask to try to bring awareness to mental health issues.

The two specially designed masks were auctioned off and raised over $32,000 for CMHA Edmonton and Schizophrenia Society of Alberta.

Jonas Gustavsson 2014-15 Mask

The mask is created in a horror style with lots of scary effects… and among them you will find all the classic monsters from our history… Can you find them all? Beware…. there is Frankenstein´s monster, zombies, the Loch Ness monster, Dracula, The Mummy, Bigfoot, werewolves, Medusa…. It is truly the Monsters Hall Of Fame….

Jimmy Howard 2014-15 Mask

Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings (born March 26, 1984 in Syracuse, NY.)

While the large winged wheels synonymous with Detroit hockey dominate the sides of the mask, Bishop added in some “Ghost” stripes and details “to sweeten the deal and personalize it a bit more for him (Howard).” Along with Howard’s number 35 in a classic font on the chin, there are some sweet graphics that are unique to Howard and the Red Wings franchise. The 1926, the year of inception for the Red Wings, might be obvious, but if you look above the old calligraphic “D” logo on top of the mask, you can see some faint racing stripes.

On the back of Howard’s mask, a crest depicting an American flag, the motto “Let’s Roll”, and the initials of his two sons accompanied by two rampant lions. Underneath all that, and against a brick wall background, the nickname “Howie” is sprawled out in similar “ghost” fashion to the 1926 written on the top of the mask.

Howard also had a special mask in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The artist of this mask was also Ray Bishop.

Howard also had a special holiday-themed mask that was auctioned for charity.

Anders Lindback 2014-15 Mask

Anders Lindback of the Dallas Stars Buffalo Sabres (born May 3, 1988 in Gavle, Sweden.)

Lindback was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in February.
