The position of goalie has an inherent romanticism: masked men clad with cool armor, serving as the last line of defense. They play entire games, with an unparalleled ability to impact outcomes. When they're on, they can single-handedly defeat a giant foe. They are the consummate underdogs and towering superheroes all at once.

Mike Smith 2017-18 Mask
Mike Smith of the Calgary Flames (born March 22, 1982 in Kingston, ON.)
Artist: David Arrigo
In David's words:
At the beginning of summer '17, Smitty was traded to the Calgary Flames. As history has dictated, his kids would be the focal point on his masks. For his "white" version mask, he wanted the kids in outdoor fun mode with the mountains of Banff in the background of Lake Louise, Alberta.
Smitty wanted to go over the top with a design on his "darker" mask celebrating the long tradition of everything Stampede; chuck wagons and horses. With our own long tradition of having the family represented on the mask, we thought it would be fun for another "wrap around" design, Aksel & Kingsley on the left on the reigns with Nixon & Ajax swinging off the back (which totally is both their styles.) There are a great deal of pearls/metallics in the background which really could only be appreciated when seeing it in person, unfortunately.
