The position of goalie has an inherent romanticism: masked men clad with cool armor, serving as the last line of defense. They play entire games, with an unparalleled ability to impact outcomes. When they're on, they can single-handedly defeat a giant foe. They are the consummate underdogs and towering superheroes all at once.
Nashville Predators' keeper Pekka Rinne is transformed into a Voodoo doll with this mask on, or maybe more precise a Voodoo Predator doll... And nothing can hold the predator back, not even if it's attached with big bad needles... He is chewing his way out from the Voodoo mask and is ready to play...
Price didn’t want to start a new NHL season without a fresh new mask, so on Friday, the Montreal Canadiens star took delivery of a fresh lid the day before it started.
In need of a new look on short notice, Price turned to artist Steve Nash of EyeCandyAir.
The images come courtesy of the mask’s artist, Jason Livery of HeadStrong Grafx, who said the mask was “all Jaro’s ideas,” and designed to play off Halak’s new Brian’s pads that debuted on InGoal this week.
“He wanted a Blues note under the tears on one side and on the other he wanted little magical notes falling out of the tears,” Livery said, noting the backplate features the Slovakian flag. “So based on his description that’s what we came up with. I don’t know of any signifigance to the design ideas. I do know I haven’t seen anything done like this mask before.”
Henrik and I talked a lot during the fall about ideas for his coming masks, and this mask series crystallized. I started to do sketches at once... :-)
Every mask will have a theme, starting with this first salute mask from Lundqvist; Legends from the Silverscreen.
On one side of the mask you find the Swedish movie legends Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman painted in a soft classic style, and on the other side you find the legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman in a movie poster inspired layout, inspired from his iconic movie The Seventh Seal.
